William Jeffry (1737-1772) was born in Salem, Mass., the son of James Jeffry ( - ) and Ruth Pratt Jeffry (ca. 1804-1792). He became clerk of the courts in Essex County, Mass. in 1771. In 1766 Jeffry married Elizabeth Bowditch ( - ) of Salem. Jeffry was one of the original subscribers for the Social Library, which was founded in Salem, Mass. in 1760.
